Wolves Overpower Nuggets in Game 2
Edwards and Towns Lead Minnesota to Victory
DENVER -- The Minnesota Timberwolves overpowered the Denver Nuggets 112-97 in Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals on Thursday night. Anthony Edwards led the charge for the Timberwolves with 24 points, while Karl-Anthony Towns added 23 points and 13 rebounds.
The Nuggets were led by Nikola Jokic, who finished with 22 points, 13 rebounds, and 7 assists. However, it was not enough to overcome the Wolves' balanced attack.
The Timberwolves took control of the game in the second quarter, outscoring the Nuggets 29-15. Edwards and Towns were particularly effective, combining for 25 points in the period.
The Nuggets tried to rally in the third quarter, but the Wolves were able to hold them off. Towns scored seven points in a row to give the Wolves a 10-point lead, and they never looked back.
Edwards Erupts
Edwards was the star of the game for the Timberwolves. He scored 24 points on 9-of-15 shooting, including 4-of-7 from three-point range.
Edwards was particularly effective in the third quarter, when he scored 12 points to help the Wolves build their lead.
Towns Dominates Inside
Towns was a force inside for the Wolves, finishing with 23 points and 13 rebounds. He was also a factor defensively, blocking two shots.
Towns has been a key player for the Wolves all season long, and he has continued to play well in the playoffs.
Nuggets Struggle to Keep Up
The Nuggets were never able to find a rhythm on offense. They shot just 38.5% from the field and 27.3% from three-point range.
Jokic was the only Nuggets player who was able to consistently produce. Jamal Murray struggled, shooting just 4-of-13 from the field.
Series Shifts to Minnesota
With the win, the Timberwolves now have a 2-0 lead in the series. The series now shifts to Minneapolis for Games 3 and 4.
The Nuggets will need to find a way to improve their offense if they want to get back into the series.
