A History of the Minnesota State Flag
Original Flag
The first state flag was adopted in 1893 and was designed by Amelia Hyde Center. It had a white field with the state seal and the name of the state.
Criticism
The original flag drew criticism for its design and depiction of Native Americans.
New Flag
Adoption
CNN reported that Minnesota unveiled a new state flag on Tuesday, May 11, 2024.
Design
The new flag has a dark blue field on the hoist in the shape of Minnesota, representing the night sky. There is a white eight-pointed star on the fly, representing the North Star.
