Van Gisbergen Takes First Cup Win In Inaugural Chicago Race

All eyes were on Chicago ahead of NASCAR's first Cup Series street race. In the end, it was a Kiwi who stole the show.

Shane van Gisbergen held off Hendrick Motorsports teammates Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson to win the inaugural NASCAR Cup Series race on the streets of Chicago.

It was the first Cup win for the New Zealander, who drives the No. 97 Chevrolet for Rick Ware Racing.

The race was a wild one, with several cautions and lead changes. Elliott led a race-high 106 laps, but couldn't hold off van Gisbergen in the end.

Larson, who started the race from the pole, finished third. Alex Bowman, who was running in the top five for most of the race, finished fourth.

The NASCAR Cup Series will be back in action next week at Sonoma Raceway.
