Harlan Succeeds Kyle Whittingham, Who Stepped Down After 17 Seasons

The University of Utah has announced the appointment of Mark Harlan as its new athletic director. Harlan, a former Utah football player and coach, will take over for Kyle Whittingham, who stepped down after 17 seasons at the helm of the athletic department.

Harlan's appointment is a homecoming of sorts. He played football at Utah from 1984 to 1988 and served as an assistant coach for the Utes from 1992 to 1995. He has since held athletic director positions at the University of South Florida and the University of San Diego.

Harlan's hiring comes at a time of transition for Utah athletics. The Utes are set to join the Pac-12 Conference in 2023, and Harlan will be tasked with leading the department through the transition.
