Kamala Harris: A Photographic Journey of Her Life

Early Life and Education

Kamala Devi Harris was born on October 20, 1964, in Oakland, California. Her mother, Shyamala Gopalan, was a Tamil Indian biologist, and her father, Donald Harris, was a Jamaican economist. Harris's parents divorced when she was young, and she was raised by her mother and stepfather, Howard Harris.

Harris attended Howard University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in political science and economics. She then went on to attend the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, where she earned a Juris Doctor degree.

Political Career

After graduating from law school, Harris began her career as a prosecutor in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She later served as District Attorney of San Francisco from 2004 to 2011.

In 2010, Harris was elected Attorney General of California, becoming the first woman and the first African American to hold that office. She served as Attorney General until 2016, when she was elected to the United States Senate.

United States Senate

Harris is the junior United States Senator from California. She is a member of the Democratic Party and serves on the Senate Judiciary Committee, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, and the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Harris is a rising star in the Democratic Party and is considered a potential presidential candidate in 2024.

Personal Life

Harris is married to Doug Emhoff, an entertainment lawyer. They have two children, Cole and Ella.
